Great Things to do in Palm Springs – For Free

The best things in life are free – well, some of them anyhow. I mean, there are lots of great free things to do in Palm Springs and if you wanted a new Nissan Palm Springs has the answer – but not for free. Here are just a few examples:

The Farmers Market – is on every Saturday morning from 8am for early birds through until 12.30 for the not so early birds. Here you’ll find a great selection of the freshest, the most delicious and the best produce grown in the local area. The sights, smells and taste of all that scrumptious produce is sure to make your mouth water.

Go on a Picnic – here’s a great idea, why not stop by the Farmers Market and pick up some delicious fresh produce and then head out on a picnic. There are plenty of perfect picnic spots in and around Palm Springs – there’s Ruth Hardy Park, DeMuth Park, Sunrise Park – all have picnic tables, shady spots and barbecues. There’s even play areas (with equipment) to keep the children happy while you sit back and relax. You won’t have to worry about the weather too much – with 350 days of wall to wall sunshine every year Palm Springs is one of the picnic capitals of the world (or at least it should be).
Get on your Bike – there are miles and miles of bicycle routes in and around Palm Springs giving you the perfect opportunity to explore downtown Palm Springs and many of the fascinating historical neighborhoods on two wheels. Cycling gives you the chance to really feel the atmosphere instead of just seeing it through car windows.

Take a Hike – let’s face it, Southern California is every hikers dream. The scenery is breathtaking, the mountain ranges reach all the way to the sky (and beyond) with long trails, short trails, easy trails, difficult trails . . . trails for every type of hiker.
Culture Walk through Village Gallery – if your idea of exercise is more of a saunter than a hike and you appreciate the finer things in life then this is definitely for you. Palm Canyon Drive has a fabulous mix of galleries with trendy boutiques, fine art exhibitions, sculptures and more. Art fairs are often held in Sunrise Park and Francis Stevens Park – you could even take a picnic.
Hit the Library – Palm Springs has a truly fabulous, in fact award winning library with a range of computers (which need a library card) and free WiFi. There’s always plenty going on at the library and much more than just books – they’ve also got loads of DVD’s, CD collections, audio books, video conferencing facilities, reference services and more, so much more.

Take a Stroll through the Art Museum – Palm Springs has a fabulous Art Museum with a superb mix of things to explore. There’s a fabulous sculpture garden, superb basketry collection, Western art, contemporary art plus a terrific restaurant and gift shop. You will have to time it right to get all of this for free – free admission is available every Thursday between 4pm and 8pm plus the second Sunday each month. Check it out; it’s well worth the trip even if you have to pay for the privilege.
With so many fabulous things to do for free in glorious Palm Springs it just shows that you can enjoy yourself without splashing out the cash.
