The Future is Small

Remember those speakers you had in college? Mine acted as coffee table, foot-rest, and wall rattling power houses. Seriously, these things could barely fit in the trunk of my dad’s old Nissan. The days of the notion of bigger being better are long gone and people are considered hoarders if all of their worldly belongings don’t fit in a suitcase! Our technology, our pets, our cars and much more are all getting smaller and smaller as our lives become more mobile and interconnected. It’s the way of the world.

Nothing exemplifies how size matters in this way than the Fiat. Fiats are a relatively new thing in the American car market. For years, that brand has been very popular in other countries, and now, they’re taking America by storm. They’re sleek and quick and even more importantly, they turn heads. The first thing you’ll note when you see one of these gems is that they’re small. Like tiny small. If an SUV and a Matchbox car got together, the Fiat would be the beloved child. They’re perfect for city drivers because they can fit into just about any parking spot and they get excellent gas mileage. They also accelerate like a sports car and are reminiscent of an Apple product. I had the good luck to test drive a Fiat recently, and I was blown away. I was skeptical at first, but that’s only because I was ignorant and judgmental. I never thought something so compact could muster such speed and power! But because this sexy speed machine is so light in comparison to other cars I’ve driven, it’s able to out perform everything else. I hope I’m never in a car chase, but if I am, I hope I’m in a Fiat. I also hope that I don’t have a lot of cargo. This is not a car for a man or woman who needs to haul much or fill the car often. It’s cozy. If you’re interested in test-driving one of these awesome and unique vehicles, go to either long beach fiat or http://www.ocfiat.com and be ready to be surprised.

The Fiat isn’t the only hip new thing out there that’s trending toward the miniature. Computers and phones get smaller with every iteration and micro technologies are among the fastest growing and most profitable businesses in the world. As our ability to store information into smaller and smaller spaces grows, our own little microcosms will shrink. Soon we will doubtlessly be able to manage our entire lives with one singular and omnipotent device. It will be able to drive our cars and protect our homes. It will be able to find any song or movie or website almost instantly.

It’s fun to imagine how this new trend will affect our future and the way the world will look. My dream is to have something in the kitchen that can make an excellent version of any dish ever invented at the push of a button.
